One would think that after twelve years of school, a high school senior would be prepared for any class. This is not always the case. I have taken college classes before they include Biology 1111, Algebra 1114, Statistics 1213, and Advanced Office. Even having taken all of these classes I do not think I quite understood what I was getting myself into. I have never enjoyed English classes as much as my other classes so taking a college english class so far, has required from me more effort that my other college classes. My initial reaction to English 1101 was shock which eventually turned into determination.
Right off the bat, we were assigned a explanatory writing paper on the topic of "unlearn." This was different for me because there was no "easing" into the writing. We got into it right away. Writing for a college class is much different than writing for a high school class as I soon learned. Papers are graded to a higher standard, homework is often no longer graded, and tests and quizzes become harder. All of these factors contributed to my inital shock. I do not think I realized the amount of work I was going to need to put into this class.
After my surprise had worn off, it was replaced with a feeling of determination. I think now, after our first paper is done, and we are further into our college writing class, I have become determined to improve myself as a writer and as a student. I also feel this class, as well as the other college classes offered at WDC will help prepare me for my first year of college.
My initial reaction to English 1101 was shock which eventually turned into determination. I will have to see what the rest of the semester brings and how I "adapt" to English 1101.
